The challenge
Many people struggle to stay consistent with rehabilitation after injuries.
Our challenge was to design an app that helps users stay motivated, track progress and manage daily recovery routines without feeling overwhelmed.

Understanding the user
User persona: Chris, 37, Designer & Swimmer, Bergen
Needs: Reminders, clear progress tracking, stress-relief tools
Pain points: Struggles to track improvement, feels stressed
Goal: Regain full shoulder mobility, stay consistent
Scenario: Chris is ambitious and motivated but often frustrated by slow progress. Revaleo supports him with daily structure and gentle guidance to stay on track.

The Double Diamond Design Process

Competitor Analysis
Due to time constraints, our discovery phase was mostly focused around analyzing three recovery apps (Injurymap, Recover, Brace) to identify visual patterns and usability gaps.
We found that most lacked motivational and mental-health elements, so we saw it as an opportunity where our app could stand out.

Moodboard & Ideation
Our moodboard captured three emotions: the pain of early recovery, the strength of determination and the calm of achieving balance.
These inspired our color palette and tone - calm, but empowering shades of blue.
Brand Identity Guidelines
After getting some inspiration, we discussed a name, logo, brand colors and typography.
We wanted our brand to combine a soothing, blue-centered color palette with simple typography and structure, while reflecting the sense of peace, progress and resilience.
Our typography choice, SF Pro, is a sans-serif font used across all Apple products. We chose it because it's highly legible and provides familiar and friendly aesthetic.

Structure & Flow
We built an Information Architecture diagram to map navigation and ensure smooth access to daily routines, progress logs and mindfulness tools.
Then, by defining a User Flow, we visualized how users move from onboarding to completing daily check-ins.
Sketching
With early sketches, we explored layouts for sign-up, onboarding and progress tracking. These helped us define a calm, predictable structure that minimized stress and supported motivation.
After agreeing on this structure, we converted the sketches into low-fidelity wireframes.

Prototyping
We used low-fidelity prototypes to test hierarchy and screen balance before building the final UI. This stage helped refine spacing, button placement and content flow.
Revaleo was designed to meet WCAG 2.1 guidelines. All colors were checked for contrast compliance, touch targets meet the 44x44px minimum and typography ensures clear hierarchy. We also included focus and error states for feedback consistency.
The solution
The solution
The final Revaleo design supports users recovering from injuries by combining motivation, structure and calmness in one app.
It guides users through daily rehabilitation exercises, tracks progress and promotes mental well-being through integrated meditation sessions.
The interface follows a clean, minimal aesthetic focused on clarity and accessibility. Progress indicators, onboarding guidance and feedback states ensure users always feel in control and informed.
By merging recovery tracking, mindfulness and personalized plans, Revaleo helps users like Chris stay consistent and confident throughout their rehabilitation journey.
Fun fact: Revaleo is a Latin word that means "be well again" or "become healthy again."
Reflection
Designing Revaleo deepened my understanding of how UX design supports recovery and motivation. It was important to balance clarity with emotional tone, since the interface needed to guide users gently without feeling too clinical.
I learned how to build solid foundations through information architecture and user flow planning, which made the design more intuitive. Applying accessibility standards throughout the process also strengthened my ability to design inclusively.
I'm pretty happy with what we managed to achieve in only one week of work!
Areas for improvement
If I continued this project, I would:
Do more design iterations, perhaps align it differently to better fit the screen size, change some small font sizes
Conduct real usability testing with recovering patients
Consider micro-interactions for smoother flow
Add more adaptive exercise recommendations based on progress
Explore integration with wearable devices for automated tracking
Overall, this project taught me to translate empathy into structured, motivating design and to create user journeys that support both physical and emotional well-being.
